Syntec Technologies and RTM Merge to Form Syntec Optics

Pavilion, NY July 31, 2006

Syntec Technologies, the largest independent manufacturer of custom polymer optics in North America, and its subsidiary, Rochester Tool and Mold (RTM), announce they have merged under the name Syntec Optics, a name clarifying their strong commitment to innovative optics.

As Syntec Optics, the company will remain focused on total solutions, especially for defense, medical and biometrics applications. It will expand capabilities in producing finished crystal optics and implementing designs that combine glass and polymers. For example, a recent Syntec solution for a protective mask, bonded a thin glass layer to polymer for higher thermal stability and lighter weight than either one alone.

Rick Arndt, VP for Syntec Optics, adds, “As Syntec Optics, we are ideally positioned to give customers the full value of our unique competence in both opaque and optical molds, and our thorough understanding of how materials behave. Our in-house Moore Nanotech 250 Diamond Turning Machine with C-Axis lets us develop the most complex geometries cost-effectively, as well as finished optics in polymers or crystals.”

With customers worldwide, Syntec Optics (www.SyntecOptics.com) combines an integrated approach to design, with proprietary RAMP techniques for rapid manufacturing and full supply chain management. Specific services include:

  • Design of plastic optics and opto-electronic components
  • Optics mold and tooling manufacturing
  • SPDT* and HRDT™ **
  • Precision automated injection molding
  • “Dock to stock” integrated assembly, one time or ongoing
  • Custom metrology

* Single Point Diamond Turning

** High Refraction Diamond Turning, patent pending
