Double convex (DCX) lenses have two convex surfaces with equal radii. They have focal points on both sides of the lens; these and the points at twice the focal length are used to locate objects and images. Since both surfaces contribute to the power of biconvex lenses, they have shorter focal length than plano convex (PCX) lenses of equal diameter and surface radius.
Double convex lenses are used in focusing and condensing system applications. They are also used as magnifiers and in image relay applications, and for imaging objects at close conjugates.
