Iris pattern is a unique human body characteristics. Iris is an internal and protected, yet externally visible part of human eye, whose complex random patterns are unique, stable, and can be seen from some distance. Biometrics iris recognition technology uses these properties for biometric identification and authentication.

Syntec Optics was highly involved in the design of precision optical, mechanical hardware and software for an iris recognition device. Initially, a major challenge was overcoming peoples’ psychological inhibitions regarding having lasers scan their eyes.
